Caroline's news

London has a long way to go in making our roads safer for everyone

Questions to the Mayor of London by Caroline Pidgeon, the Liberal Democrat Londonwide Assembly Member, have revealed:

  • Between 1 January 2016 to 30 November 2018 there were 71 recorded bus collisions involving pedestrians at a designated pedestrian crossing.
  • Collisions involving buses at pedestrian crossings are taking place in London almost every fortnight on average
  • Pedestrian collisions involving buses have taken place in almost every London Borough

Boroughs need clarity on the Met's extra police scheme

At the London Assembly Budget and Performance Committee, Caroline questioned the Mayor on the Met's Patrol Plus Scheme which allows boroughs to fund extra police officers to tackle local priority issues. The scheme is currently under review, and it's vital that boroughs get clarity on its future as soon as possible.

"Zero emission buses" are still using diesel for heating!

In December, Caroline questioned the Mayor on electric buses and how to get to a zero-emission bus fleet. He acknowledged that his "zero emission buses" are actually "zero tailpipe emissions", as they still have diesel engines for heating systems. Much more action is needed to clean up the bus fleet.
