Major works at London Bridge Station

Caroline Pidgeon AM joined Carshalton and Wallington Lib Dem MP Tom Brake to visit London Bridge Station in December to see the redevelopment plans for the station. London Bridge Station is being completely rebuilt as part of the £6.5bn government-sponsored Thameslink Programme.

One of Britain’s biggest station infrastructure projects will bring nine 'through' platforms and six terminating platforms in the future. This will mean more trains to more destinations including a connection to Crossrail services at Farringdon providing links across and beyond London in all directions.

Caroline and Tom had the opportunity to walk through the partially constructed concourse, which will be larger than Wembley football pitch once completed, that is being constructed under the existing working station.

"The works are desperately needed at the station but passengers have suffered serious delays and cancellations in the run up to Christmas and since in the New Year , despite a 2 week closure of the whole station. Network Rail have got to get to grips with the issues at the station and ensure that passengers have a reliable train service. Especially given trains have been cut form the timetable and yet fares have gone up" commented Caroline.

London Bridge is the fourth busiest station in the country, bringing around 50 million passengers into the city each year. Redevelopment of this station will allow the introduction of more Thameslink trains every day - up to 18 trains an hour through London Bridge - offering better connections than ever before.
