Caroline Pidgeon, leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on the criticism of Boris Johnson by the Chairman of the UK Statistics Authority over a press release issued by the Mayor about a drop in crime on public transport in the capital, said:
“By attempting to paint a rosy picture about crime statistics before the figures were officially published the Mayor has damaged public trust in statistics. The Mayor should never play games by selectively releasing data and spinning a misleading line, especially over something as important as crime statistics.”
