Caroline Pidgeon has exposed the immense waste by Transport for London (TfL) in allowing buildings in Catford to remain empty for almost 25 years.
Transport for London have been urged by Caroline Pidgeon and Lewisham Liberal Democrat Councillors to either refurbish the buildings or sell then.
Chris Maines, leader of the Liberal Democrat Council Group on Lewisham said "These buildings have just been sitting there unused for years and years now. It is a total waste of money.
"We would either like this eyesore to be refurbished and reopened for public use, or sold off. TfL is facing huge cutbacks and these buildings are an example of them wasting money.
Caroline recently visited Catford to check up on these empty properties on Brownhill Road, on the South Circular. She first raised the issue of the empty properties with the Mayor in May 2009. She was told that TfL were in "discussion" with Lewisham Council about transport improvements that could see some of the properties demolished. After fresh questioning over the issue her most recent written response from London Mayor Boris Johnson states that nothing has changed in the last two years.
After receiving such a poor response from the Mayor of London Caroline said:
"If Mr Johnson really wants to help the regeneration of Catford he would ensure that the dithering between Lewisham Council and TfL over the future of these buildings comes to an immediate end."
