Key concerns in Hanwell

Caroline joined local Lib Dem Cllr Nigel Bakhai to look at problems with Hanwell Station next to his ward in Ealing.

The station has no services on Sundays, has no step free access like so many and it is not clear what improvements will be made when Crossrail comes along. Furthermore, the entrance to the station from Station Approach is closed off making it inconvenient for residents in Cllr Bakhai’s ward to access the station.

Caroline also looked at the dangerous junction with Church Road, which she has already raised with TfL and will do again. Pedestrians have no safe crossing point at this junction.

Caroline supports campaign for Dutch-style cycling revolution

Caroline joined an estimated 10,000 cyclists in the Big Ride in central London in support of the 'Going Dutch' campaign organised by the London Cycling Campaign.

The massive crowd, representing every age and background, braved at-times atrocious weather to be part of the UK’s largest-ever bike ride supporting safer streets for cycling. Liberal Democrat Mayoral candidate Brian Paddick and Simon Hughes MP, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats also took part, reinforcing the strong support of the Liberal Democrats to safer streets for Londoners.

Caroline was one of the first politicians to formally endorse the campaign and over the last four years has repeatedly raised issues relating to cycle safety in her work on the London Assembly.

Addison Lee injunction is the right outcome to prevent gridlock

Reacting to the news that Transport for London’s High Court injunction has prevented Addison Lee drivers from using bus lanes, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on the London Assembly and candidate for Deputy Mayor, Caroline Pidgeon said:

“I’m delighted with this outcome, bus lanes should be for buses and black cabs only. Allowing any more vehicles in them could cause gridlock and inconvenience hundreds of thousands of passengers a day.”

Campaigning in Haringey

Caroline joined local Lib Dem Councillors and Assembly Candidate Dawn Barnes out knocking on doors in Stroud Green ward on Thursday followed by carrying out a bus survey about the W3 bus at Finsbury Park.

The route is officially the most complained about in London, with TfL receiving over fifty complaints from passengers in a four week period last autumn. Liberal Democrats held their own survey session at Finsbury Park bus station to find out why the bus route attracts so much criticism.

Caroline Pidgeon was joined by Haringey London Assembly candidate Dawn Barnes, Liberal Democrat leader on Haringey Council, Richard Wilson, and a number of other Lib Dem members. The survey asked whether there were enough buses at rush hour, whether there were enough buses at the weekends and if there were problems with the countdown displays.

Campaigning for One Hour Bus Tickets in Westminster

Caroline joined local Assembly Candidate Layla Moran and local Lib Dem campaigners in Westminster on Sunday, campaigning for a One Hour Bus Ticket and knocking on doors.

“We had a great response form local people in Bayswater who love our ideas to make transport fares more affordable with our One Hour Bus Ticket, Early Bird Fares and part Time Travelcard” commented Caroline.

Charlie Brown's roundabout needs urgent safety action

Caroline joined local Councillors Ian Bond and Gwyneth Deakins out and about in Redbridge on Saturday. The team met local residents and highlighted the terrible problems crossing the main road by the Charlie Brown Roundabout. Cllr Richard Hoskins and other local residents and campaigners joined the team to support the crossing campaign.

Speaking to the Wanstead & Woodford Guardian about TfL's failure to install pedestrian crossings and traffic lights at the roundabout, Caroline said:

"People shouldn't have to take their lives in their hands just to get across the road. It's absolutely staggering.

"We need to make sure something is done urgently to make it safe. The crossing needs to be up to minimum safety standards and this is a big issue at this election for me."

What does "free" Tube wifi really mean for passengers?

Tube stations across London will soon start to provide access to mobile internet services at the platform level ahead of the 2012 Games. The initial roll-out will deliver free unlimited Wi-Fi at 80 stations for all Tube passengers. Connectivity will not be available in the tunnels.

Caroline has raised concers that whilst it is being extended to 120 stations by the end of 2012, it appears that passengers will only be able to use this service for free if they are on a Virgin media contract. The costs if you are not on a Virgin media contract remain unclear.

Chiswick residents get review of Turnham Green Piccadilly line hours

After questioning from Caroline Pidgeon on behalf of Chiswick residents, the Mayor has indicated that Transport for London will hold a consultation on extending the hours that Piccadilly line trains stop at Turnham Green.

Caroline asked the Mayor:

Further to my previous questions supporting Piccadilly Line trains stopping at Turnham Green throughout the day, will you review TfL's position on the hours that tubes stop, to improve the service for local residents around Turnham Green? When can we expect the outcome of any review?

The Mayor replied:
