Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on Transport for London’s initial plans for a limited Christmas Day bus service, which will for the first time be considered by TfL’s Surface Transport Panel, said:

“For many years TfL has peddled the claim that there is little demand for bus services on Christmas Day so it is welcome that they finally recognise the potential demand of as many as 1.3 million passengers for a full Sunday service operated on Christmas Day.

Caroline Pidgeon, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on today’s announcement by Transport for London (TfL) that it is set to release more than 300 acres of TfL land to help create more than 10,000 new homes across London, said:

“It seems that at the eleventh hour in his time at City Hall the Mayor is finally waking up to the huge potential to build more homes on land owned by the public sector across London.

As Transport for London released figures showing that London bus accidents cause a death every three weeks, Caroline Pidgeon said:

“There is something seriously wrong when the penalties facing bus companies are stacked towards tackling lateness when safety should be the very first priority.

“Bus companies must face stiff penalties if they take any risks with passenger safety.”

Caroline Pidgeon, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on the "Safer Together" report, written by the RSA, which sets out immense budget pressures facing the Metropolitan Police Service in future years, said:

"I welcome this report, as it sets out very clearly the challenges the Metropolitan Police Service now faces.

Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron and Lib Dem Mayoral candidate Caroline Pidgeon came to Carshalton on Monday to praise the Lib Dem run council's efforts to provide high quality housing for local residents.

Tim and Caroline visited Fellowes Road in Carshalton to see the new properties built in the last few years. The council secured nearly £7 million to build 47 new homes for local families as part of a wider regeneration scheme of the area.
