Ahead of the Mayor of London’s expected fare announcement for transport services in London for 2015, Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, has called on the Mayor to honour his commitment to finally introduce a weekly cap on Oyster pay as you go fares in 2015.

Explaining why a weekly cap is so important, Caroline Pidgeon said:

“If you use contactless payment there is a weekly cap on your fares, but not if you use Oyster pay as you go. That is totally unfair and indefensible.

Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on the decision by Transport for London to completely close Tower Hill Tube station on Saturday 1st November and Sunday 2nd November, said:

“It is an appalling decision by Transport for London to close Tower Hill station during half term week and just a week before Remembrance Sunday.

At Mayor's Question Time last week, Caroline Pidgeon expressed her support for a cycling bridge from Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf - which would increase cycling, provide an alternative to the congested Jubilee line, and provide a river crossing where it is really needed.

The Mayor has agreed to review proposals for the "Brunel Bridge" by sustainable transport advocacy group Sustrans.

On behalf of the London Assembly Transport Committee which she chairs, Caroline Pidgeon has criticised Transport for London's decision to pay £80m to Bombardier Transport on terminating a contract which Bombardier had failed to deliver on.

Caroline said:

"How is it possible that Bombardier's woeful failure to deliver was rewarded with a fat cheque?

Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, commenting on the recommendation today by the London Health Commission that Trafalgar Square, Parliament Square and 25,000 acres of parks in the capital should go smoke free, said:

“Huge changes have taken place in public attitudes towards smoking and it is important that this continues. It is now hard to even imagine that 30 years ago smoking was not only permitted on London Underground trains but was also routine in most offices.
