Campaigning in Worcester Park

Caroline has joined Liberal Democrats in Sutton, Paul Burstow MP, local Assembly candidate Abigail Lock and other candidates for the London elections out and about campaigning for a new councillor in Worcester Park.

“It has been great on my visits so far to talk about local issues such as the bid for town centre improvements and policing, as well as wider issues such as the Mayor’s increase in fares. Roger Roberts is a superb local candidate with all the experience needed to be a strong champion for Worcester Park” added Caroline.

Update: Liberal Democrat candidate Roger Roberts secured the seat in the Worcester Park ward with a total of 1367 votes, beating Conservative candidate Simon Densley who received 977 votes.

Helping traders on London Road

Caroline joined Sutton's Deputy Leader Cllr Ruth Dombey with local campaigner Roger Roberts to meet traders on London Road to discuss issues with short stay parking on the red route.

The bays by the shops are split between loading ones and 20 minutes parking. Many customers receive parking fines for parking in the wrong part by mistake and in fact local traders and residents would like to see all of the bays as joint loading and short term parking so that it is simple and clear for everyone.

Caroline Pidgeon and Brian Paddick call for communities to stand up to criminals

London Liberal Democrat Mayoral candidate Brian Paddick today revealed how he would offer Londoners the chance to reclaim the streets from criminals and work with police to help reduce rising levels of crime.

Brian and his candidate for Deputy Mayor, London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon, spoke to residents in Vauxhall about a recent spate of muggings in the area and their concerns about safety in the community.

Out and about in Battersea

Caroline Pidgeon AM joined Lib Dem Mayoral Candidate Brian Paddick and Merton and Wandsworth Lib Dem Candidate Lisa Smart out and about in Battersea on 5th December, along with other local residents including Battersea Lib Dem Chair Richard Davis.

The team looked at the works to make Clapham Junction station accessible, as well as ways to improve cycling in the area and the impact of the riots on local businesses.

Campaigning in Sutton

Caroline joined Brian Paddick, Tom Brake MP, Cllr Ruth Dombey and Lord Graham Tope out and about in Sutton on Friday 25th November.

The Lib Dem team met up with local residents and Councillors to campaign against the proposed changes to through trains on the Thameslink lines. This will affect many parts of Sutton and mean local residents will have to change at Blackfriars station to continue their journey northwards to St Pancras, the City and Luton.

The team then visited the fantastic BedZed development and heard about plans for a sustainable Hackbridge as well as looking at the area.

Double by-election in Kingston

Caroline Pidgeon AM joined Brian Paddick and Lib Dem Assembly Candidate Shas Sheehan, along with strong campaigner Robin Meltzer out in Coombe Vale ward in Kingston on Friday 25th November.

The team were out campaigning for Kamala Kugan and Rupert Nichol to be the new local councillors for the ward after two of the Conservative members have resigned.

“We had a great team out on the doors and it is clear the area needs strong Lib Dem champions. I have no doubt Kamala and Rupert will be excellent representatives for the area”, commented Caroline.

Out and about in Bromley

Caroline Pidgeon AM was the guest speaker at Orpington Liberal Democrats' AGM on Saturday 19th November.

Caroline discussed the London election campaign and the key issues which the London Assembly group had been working on, such as exposing the Mayor’s record on cycle safety and cutting bus capacity.

Caroline launches 2012 campaign in Harrow

London Liberal Democrat leader Caroline Pidgeon promised "to campaign against cuts to policing and tackle overcrowding on London's transport network" as she launched the Lib Dem London Assembly election campaign at a social club in Harrow.

Caroline outlined Lib Dem policy on:

  • Cycling safety: stopping plans to expand the Mayor’s cycle super-highways until they have been fully reviewed and all dangerous junctions made safe.

Caroline backs campaign against Feltham station parking rip-off

Caroline Pidgeon, the leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, has recently presented a petition to the Mayor of London calling for him to work with Hounslow Council to ensure that a rarely used bus stand at Feltham train station is turned into a short term drop off/pick off point for rail passengers.

The demands of the petition are backed up by powerful evidence that a huge number of local residents are being hit by penalty charges following the introduction of cameras by Hounslow Council. A recent freedom of information request and further inquiries have confirmed that there have been a total to date total of 7,119 penalty charge notices at this location. The total income received has been £337,724.48; with an additional £68,856.52 currently outstanding from 549 PCNs.

Out and about in Hornsey and Wood Green

Caroline Pidgeon AM joined Lynne Featherstone MP and Brian Paddick, Lib Dem London Mayoral Candidate out and about in Hornsey and Wood Green on Friday 14th October.

As well as meeting many local residents, Lynne Featherstone MP officially opened a green composting toilet at the wonderful Alexandra Palace allotments, alongside Allotments Chair and Lib Dem Councillor Bob Hare. (Read more about this project on Lynne's website.)

This was followed by wonderful home made cakes and tea.

“It was fantastic to talk to green fingered local residents who have these wonderful allotments. Their flowers, fruit and vegetables were amazing, as well as the chickens and bees kept on site. This amazing green oasis on a sunny day was simply beautiful” commented Caroline Pidgeon AM.
